Thanksgiving & more

On the 11th, we headed down to Boise for Woody's grandpa's birthday. We got to go to a really fun party for him that night with pretty much all of Woody's mom's family. His parents and Angela came down from CA and Mary came down from WA, and then the rest of the Idahoans were there as well. Saturday, we went shopping and then Woody and I went to my favorite restaurant from when I was little, Cafe Ole! It was a lot more ghetto than I remember, but it was still a good time. It was fun to see his family and spend some time with them.

The next week on the 17th, it was my birthday. I had a super busy day with lots of meetings, class, work, and an interview, but I had some fun surprises along the way-at one of my meetings, they had a surprise party, my friend bought me lunch, they decorated my desk at work, and then I came home to a delicious homemade meal of chicken parmesan and spinach artichoke dip, two of my favorites! After that, I took a well deserved nap, then we went and got frozen yogurt at Kiwi Loco, and then later on, I was bored so we went to Winco. It was a good day!

On the Monday before Thanksgiving, we drove to Utah to go catch our flight for Colorado. We drove to my grandma's house in Layton and then she drove us to the airport. Our flight was super short, it was 55 minutes I think, which is a lot shorter than usual. Once we got to the airport, we waited around forever for our luggage, and then they made an announcement and said, "For those arriving on Southwest from Salt Lake, in case you didn't know, your luggage is on carousel 7. Also, it's jammed." I was like seriously?????  Thanks for telling us! But then I calmed down. We walked out to the parking lot, and drove my dad's car back from the airport(he flew to Baltimore that morning).

I was sort of worried my dogs wouldn't remember me. That sounds totally lame. But seriously. I hadn't seem them for like 7 months, and I missed them so much. I love them. Lately I've realized that I am sort of prejudice when it comes to dogs...there are only certain ones that I like. ANYWAYS. They remembered me! And after getting lots of kisses and scratches from them attacking me, I was covered in hair, but it was ok.

It was fun to see my family too. I guess I should have written that before my dogs! But I have seen them since we got married, but I haven't seen the dogs since then. On Tuesday, we got up and went with my mom to change the oil on the cars, then we picked up my grandparents from the shuttle stop, made them scrambled eggs for breakfast, and then took a nap because we were exhausted! After that we just hung out with family, watched Star Wars, and did homework.

On Wednesday, we went to breakfast with some of my best friends from high school. It was so fun to see them! After that, we went to Old Navy because they were having a clearance sale. Woody got some flip flops and shirts and I got a sweater, two shirts, and a pair of pants. After that, we picked up my dad from the shuttle. Then we celebrated my birthday by having bienenstich, which is one of my favorite German desserts, and then that night, we drove to Denver to go to Lion King.

Lion King was SO amazing. During the first song(Circle of Life), they had so many amazing animals, and the music was amazing...I was getting teary eyed. I guess I'm just a die hard Disney fan! It was so good. I think its one of my new favorites. One of my favorite parts was when Mufasa died, because of how they did the stampede. It really looked like there was animals running at us. It was a really fun show.

Thursday was Thanksgiving! We slept in, and then made the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and the green beans. We have a tradition where we put our hand prints on a table cloth every year. It's getting pretty covered in hand prints. It was funny last year because my mom and I were talking about it, and we decided we would just not bring it up to Woody so that it wasn't awkward(we weren't even engaged then), but then my little brother helped Woody do it anyways. It was cute. So lucky for him, he is on there twice now. Our Thanksgiving was delicious, and I'm so glad we got to be there with family. That night, Justin had some friends over, and we watched Hot Rod. Then, I had a good talk with my mom. After that, Woody and I went to Old Navy to try to find those coat he wanted that was on sale for Black Friday, but it was gone. Then we went to Macy's because we have a gift card there, but didn't buy anything. Last we went to Target, and got Glee Karaoke for my family for Christmas, and then the Batman movies for us.

We went back to my house and went to sleep for a long time! It was close to 3 when we got back. On Friday, we went to DP Dough to get calzones because I got a great coupon for there off of Living Social. Then we went to go see the Muppets movie with the whole fam. My family has been into the Muppets for as long as I can remember, so we were all really excited. Woody didn't know anything about them, so I was worried he wouldn't like it, but even he thought it was funny.

Friday night, we decided to give my family their Christmas present early, and played Glee karaoke with my parents and Grandma for a while. Then we finished watching Star Wars.

Saturday, we went to take family pictures. Some of them turned out :) Then my mom drove us and my grandparents to the airport, and we flew back to Salt Lake.

When we got to Salt Lake, we took all our stuff outside to the passenger pick up, and then I called my grandma, and she told me she thought we didn't come in til later, so she was just then leaving. We waited outside in the cold for a while playing Angry Birds, and then her and Don came. She invited my cousin Elasha and her family over for dinner, so it was fun to see them.

We drove back to Rexburg, and now we're just working on surviving the rest of the semester. It's been rough coming back after a break! But we're almost done.

We're still unsure of what we're doing next semester. Things keep changing on us, and every time we think we have it figured out, something falls through or ends up not working out. So, we have no idea what we're doing with our lives. We sure are hoping to figure it out soon though!

Aren't they so cute???? Sure love those pooches!

Lundy Lake

In August, we got the chance to go to Lundy Lake with Woody's family while we were in California. Apparently, it's been a family tradition for forever, and I've heard so many stories about it, so it was exciting to go.

Lundy Lake is pretty far from LA, where Woody's family lives, so we got to drive 7 more hours after driving the 15 hours there. It was well worth the trip though!

The "A" on the map below is where Lundy Lake is located at.

Woody pouting because we were going to Erick Schat's and not Carl's Jr.

Erick Schat's Bakery is an awesome little restaurant that is on the way to Lundy Lake. It's Layne family tradition to stop there on the way. They have awesome sandwiches, pastries, bread, and tons and tons of fun candies and sweets.

Love this because it was like 5 hours from the ocean!

Davey Jones' locker

Our new tent we got as a wedding present!

It was so fun! I suggest going there if you ever get the chance.

So I started up another semester of school last Monday, and the amount of "crazy" in my life has increased a hundred fold. We went camping this weekend(just overnight) and that was a nice break from the crazy. We had a huge rainstorm too, which was exciting. I'm very excited for fall, not so much for winter though.

My "One Bag" event was a huge success! We only used about 1/4 of the bag. I have a ton of pictures and such that I will be posting later this week.

I don't have too much extra time today to post anything cool, so here's some pictures from camping! Stay tuned for better posts later this week :)

Remembering 9/11

I was in 5th grade when 9/11 happened. I remember walking downstairs and seeing my mom standing in front of the TV crying. I walked over and she hugged me and we watched as the second tower hit, and then stood there in shock. The impact of this event didn't fully hit me for a few days. Newspaper articles and the News made me realize how close to home this was, and to feel that sadness and pain that those people in NY were feeling, and the sense of loss our country felt as a whole.

There are tons of tribute videos floating around the web today, and I'm sure they are all really great. I saw this one on Facebook, and I especially love how it shows the support and love that other countries showed for our nation during this time.

I'm so thankful every day for those brave men and women who fight for our amazing country.

May we never forget those who lost their lives that day, whether they be on the plane, in the buildings, in the city, or those brave firefighters who gave their lives trying to save others.

Forever ago, we went to California and said I'd blog about it. I haven't decided yet if this will be a two part or three part serious yet, but regardless, enjoy!

Here is pictures of food:

We stopped at Mad Greek in Baker, California on the way there. This was the first time I'd ever had a gyro, and it was pretty good. Super expensive, so I'm not sure we'll go back, but it was a tasty meal! I'd heard great things about Mad Greek, but I didn't realize what a popular spot it really is. It's in the middle of nowhere, but it was absolutely PACKED!
P.S. you can do some really good people watching here

This is at Hokkaido, which was a Seafood buffet. Papito(Father-in-law) had heard it was good, so we went mainly for the Sushi, but for the other stuff as well. It wasn't too good, but I loved the jello cubes(seen above), their coconut shrimp(it was super sweet and so tasty!) and their crab legs. Plus they had soft serve ice cream, which is hands down my favorite thing in the entire world. The sushi wasn't too good though.

Our favorite sushi place in LA is Sushi Sumo. It's a rotating belt and the chefs put out fresh sushi all the time. I highly recommend it!

I'm really mature and still mix my leftover foods at restaurants.

We went to Sprinkles bakery!

I got a chocolate marshmallow cupcake. It was pretty tasty!

Funny story: Sprinkles was busy, so we sat outside to eat our cupcakes. I took out my camera and was taking pictures of the cupcakes, and a homeless lady came up and tried to steal mine. She reached right for it. I was so shocked, I didn't even know what to say, so I just blocked her hand so she couldn't touch it. Thankfully, she backed off. I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from downtown Beverly Hills. haha.

Have you seen that commercial about animal abuse where it shows all the pictures of cute dogs and plays Sarah McLachlan in the background?

Me either.

Actually I watched it once, and felt sad and missed my dogs a lot, and now every time it comes on, I have to change the channel.

I LOVE my dogs. Not all dogs, but my precious little lap loving sweet hilarious chihuahua's Chloe and Bronx.

Love them.

ps. I look like a demon in this picture. its old. don't judge :) also note that our fridge doesn't normally look like that

Well, our CA vacation was superb! We got back Sunday night around 8:30, worked the next morning at 8 until 5, then fell asleep at 7 and didn't wake up til this morning at 8, with a massive headache. I went to work late, and then left two hours later after I tossed my cookies in the bathroom. I then tossed them 3 more times(so far) at home. Yay. What a swell day!

Regardless...I don't like looking at food right now, so once I'm better I'll post some recipes. For now, here's a few pics from CA. I'll post more later!

This was at a lake 7 hours from the ocean :)
