Can I just say that long distance relationships really stink? And planning a wedding long distance is even harder! Every day I try to distract myself with school and work so that I don't miss Woody too much, but I also have to face these wedding plans, which requires thinking about him. We try to talk as much as we can, but I don't have free minutes until after 9, and on weekends, and his Skype has issues working. We hadn't Skyped for a week, and yesterday it was finally working, so we got to for like 5 hours! It was great! We got a lot done too. Our list of addresses is almost finished, we decided where we are applying to live(I still need to send him my part of the application!), I found the perfect shades of the colors I want (magenta, light pink, and charcoal gray), we added some more items to our registry, and probably other things that I can't remember right now. This being apart thing isn't my favorite, but in 76 days, we'll be together forever! <3

Woody is off-track this semester, and staying in California, doing an internship with Dokken Engineering in Temecula. I went up and met his  family right before Christmas, and it was a great week. Everyone in Colorado was expecting me to come back with a ring. But I didn't. We knew we were going to get married, hopefully in April, but we didn't want to plan anything til it was official. I was kind of going crazy because April isn't that far from December, but I didn't want to rush him either.

We had planned that he would come to visit the weekend of the 14th. Our first week back to school, his sister Marisa invited me over for a movie/game night that Friday. I called Woody while I was walking over, and when I got there, I sat on the curb and talked to him a little longer. After we talked a while, he said, "Hold on just a second," and then I heard footsteps on the phone, and someone walking up behind me, and then the phone call ended, and someone put their arm around me. Since I had left California, I had been making up these scenarios in my head about him surprising me, but I didn't believe it would ever happen. Especially on this day because he had told me all about his crazy day-there's no way he could have randomly flown to Idaho after all that had happened that day. But alas, it was real. I was so excited to see him! It had only been 2 weeks since we'd seen each other, but that was long enough! He told me that he didn't have a ring yet, but I said we could just go look the next day, I didn't really care, I was just happy to see him!

We took his stuff over to the Pines(where he used to live) and dropped it off, and then we were walking to go get dinner, but he led me intead over to the firepit(the first place that we really talked). He hugged me, pulled something out of his pocket, then dropped down on one knee, and the rest is history! I am sappy and cried, but it was so exciting! After the proposal, we went and ate dinner at the same restaurant we went on our first date to, Gringos, and they sat us in the same booth that we sat in on our first date. That just added to the magic of this night.

This surprise visit was the best surprise of my life!

PS. Woody's day wasn't really as crazy as he had told me-he had made up this elaborate story that sounded totally real so I wouldn't even suspect! And he lied about not having a ring too! But they all made the surprise even better!

I LOVE my ring!

But not as much as I LOVE MY MAN!

How we Erika!

So all summer long I had been in this funk. I didn't want to date, I didn't want to talk to boys, pretty much I just hung out with my same guy friends that I had had(on occasion) and steered clear of meeting any new ones. I'd been pretty anti-social all summer, but near the end my friend invited me to a pot luck. I went, and only knew a few people there, but I remember seeing a blonde boy that I thought was cute, but I didn't introduce myself because I wasn't that interested, and I was still in a funk. As the summer had progressed, I had decided that when I turned 21 I would go on a mission, and after graduating from BYU-Idaho, I would go to grad school. My life was going to be about me, and I wasn't going to worry about boys. At all.

About a week or two after deciding this, I glanced at my phone while I was at the grocery store and saw I had a missed call from a 310 number. I didn't recognize that area code or anything so I figured it was just a spam call. While I was walking home from the grocery store, I looked at my phone again and saw that I had another missed call from the same number. This was unusual. When I got home, I googled the number, and found out it was from California. I blocked my number and called back to see if it was maybe someone I knew...but I didn't think it was. It rang a few times, and then a boy answered. Being in my She-Woman-Man-Haters-club state of mind, I panicked, and promptly hung up.  A little while later, I went and played piano by myself for a little bit, and when I was walking back, I stopped in at one of my friends apartments. I picked up their ward list, and as I started looking through it, I said "Do you guys know anyone from California?" Both of the boys in the room(who I had ignored because of my independent women lifestyle) said that they were. I told them I had a missed call from a 310 number, and one of the boys said, "Wait. Are you Erika?" and then I discovered that he had called to ask me on a date. I told him how I had blocked my number and hung up. And then realized what I did and left soon after :) I was kind of sad because he was cute and I had messed up something that maybe could have been.

The next night, I went to a "bonfire"(it wasn't that big) at this firepit. I sat next to Woody, and we talked pretty much the whole time. We had a lot in common, and it was fun getting to know him. I still couldn't help that feel that I had ruined any chance of anything though. The next day, my friend Rebekah(shout out girl, love ya) invited Woody and his roommates over for dinner. This was her idea because she knew I had the hots for him. Such a good friend. Anyways. Dinner was good, and afterwards I was doing the dishes while everyone played games, and Woody came and helped me. That was cute.

The next day, or maybe the day after that, Woody and I went longboarding/scootering down a big hill. I burned a hole in my flip flop because I didn't take my foot off the brake. It was fun, and right when we got back, he went over to my apartment to flirt with my roommate. I was still in my boy-hating funk, so I was sad, but not too sad. The next day, it was my day off, and I went to the grocery store looking pretty trashy, but I didn't care. But who should I happen to see on my way back? Just Woody going over to my apartment to ask my roommate out. She wasn't home, and since I had his number from the previous weekend, I told him I would text him when she was.

A few days after their date. Or maybe even the next day, I heard the doorbell ring, and then my roommate came back and told me the door was for me. I walked out only to see Woody. He asked if I'd go to dinner and a movie with him that Friday, and of course I said yes! I  was so excited. I even curled my hair for our date, which I hadn't done for a solid 5 months. It was a perfect date. We talked all through dinner, and then walked around and talked even more before the movie started. All through the movie, I was exhausted because I had worked early that morning, and I had to work early the next morning too. But I tried so hard to stay awake so that I wouldn't ruin the date. Apparently my efforts were well worth it :)

How we met

Well here is the story how me and Erika first started to date. I had this amazing date planned out and I was way excited when 2 hours before my date calls and cancels. I went home to my friends who I was gonna triple with and they tried to find me a date, but no success. One of the girls they gave me to call was Erika Hanks I didn’t really know who she was. Anyways later that night I get a call back from a private number and say hello and they hang up. Rude! I thought it was that Erika girl I called but oh well. I went over to my friends apt and this girl was there looking at the ward list asking what area code 310 is and I said California why. She smiled and I said Your Erika huh? It was funny and awkward all at the same time. I told her I called to ask her out but she didn’t answer so too bad maybe next time.
We both lived in the same ward and on the 4th of July weekend everyone in Rexburg decided to go leave so The groups of friends that we usually hung out with were a little different this week. That night we went to a fire at the pines with a few friends and Erika was there too. I sat next to her and we just started talking. The smoke was getting in my face, but I didn’t want to move caz I was having too much fun (how cute Huh)
Anyways Sunday my apartment went and had dinner with some friends, including Erika and then because I'm a guy and don't catch on to things fast I asked her roommate out.  I still wanted to ask Erika out but didn’t want to be a jerk and take roommates out caz that’s lame so I figured I had messed it up. My friend came up behind me and told me to ask Erika out caz she “likes me” so I got excited and Asked her out. I was sick of planning dates and having all these girls bail out on me so I did a classic dinner and a movie which is supposed to be the worst first date ever, but it turned out being the best date I had ever had.
